Difference Between a Garland & an Arch

One thing I notice that people get confused about with balloons is the difference between a garland and an arch. So I am going to explain the full difference between the two items here!

First, we will start with an arch. A balloon arch is 2 things:

  1. Freestanding; meaning it does not need to be attached to a wall or an existing structure in your home or event space.

  2. Classic; meaning it is a favorite of classic balloon artists and has been around for quite a long time.

Pictured below is what is called an organic arch as opposed to the structured arches that you may see on Pinterest. Organic-style balloons are Sunny Day’s specialty, so I have loved figuring out how to make classic offerings “organic”. Majority of the time, a balloon artist will have their own equipment that supports this arch and may or may not charge a rental fee for this structure on top of the balloon fee.

Second, I will discuss a garland. A balloon garland is 4 things:

  1. Not freestanding; garlands need to be attached to something whether it is a wall or rental structure.

  2. Most of the time organic; meaning many different sizes of balloons are used to create a natural, unstructured look.

  3. Modern; organic balloon garlands are a newer form of balloon decor as opposed to the structured, classic decor from the past.

  4. More customizable than an arch; for garlands, you can choose the exact length you want as opposed to an arch where you are limited to the size of the structure supporting it.

Below you will see many different lengths of garland, each attached to something different whether it is a wall, a railing, or a rentable backdrop!

These two items make up a majority of balloon offerings and can be made to fit any color scheme. Garlands are by far my most popular offering, as they can be customized so easily for many different budgets.

Now that you know the difference between these two offerings, you can use it to talk to your balloon decor specialist and be on the same page from the start!
